Cycling

The Vall de Pop is a favourite with road cyclists and mountain bikers. Quiet tarmac roads through the vineyards, climbs up to the mountain villages and views of the sea, with a climate that is cycling-friendly almost every day. Here you will find world-famous climbs such as the Coll de Rates. There is a reason professional riders use this area as a training ground.

Road and mountain bike

This valley is the cycling area par excellence, in every season. Hills and mountains are waiting to be conquered on a mountain bike or a road bike. Beautiful marked routes through the valley or along the coast.

In winter the professionals settle in the region to prepare for the Tour de France, the Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta. Road cyclists find quiet, well-maintained roads here with enough climbing to test the legs. The Coll de Rates is the best-known climb, a regular training ascent for the pros. Ride up behind them, or meet the cycling heroes in the little coffee bar. Most of them are happy to chat.

Mountain bikers turn off the tarmac and follow unpaved trails through the terraces and the hills. From the finca you ride straight into the wooded mountain; the coast is half an hour away if you want to drop down to the sea.

Bring your own bike or hire one nearby. Your bike is delivered to the door. All you have to do is get on and find out why so many people cycle here.

Thanks to the mild climate it is cycling weather all year round, with spring and autumn as the favourite seasons.

A few routes from Finca Llíber

Coll de Rates

This is a classic. Every cycling fan climbs this 5.9 km pass. It starts in Parcent, with an average gradient of just over 5% and peaks of up to 11% in the bends. At the top there is a café-restaurant with a beautiful view and apple strudel with whipped cream. This climb can be part of an 80 km route to Tárbena and Benidorm.

Vall de Pop Grand Tour

Through the Vall de Pop you get a gently rolling ride of about 40 km, leading from our house past Jalón, Alcalalí, Parcent and Orba. A nice loop to warm up on.

Costa Blanca coastal road

This route is a lovely mix of mountains and coast. You do have to take the car traffic into account. You ride down to Calpe, with a view of the Peñón de Ifach. Then you follow the coast to Moraira and climb back inland.

Out of the gate and into the valley

From Finca Llíber you can head straight out onto the road for the demanding routes described above. One warning about our 'drive', which has a gradient of 12%, so you will need to save some energy for the ride home. But then you can go straight into the pool.
