The limestone mountains around the valley are full of climbing areas, for beginners and experienced climbers alike. The flagship is Peña Roja, ten minutes from the finca.
From Peña Roja to Puig Campana
Peña Roja lies in the Jalón valley. This mountain has almost 30 lightly bolted walls of increasing difficulty. Climbers come to Llíber especially for this crag from Canada, France, the Netherlands, the UK and elsewhere, and are more than happy to camp in this oasis of calm. You need to bring your own climbing gear.
There are several crags nearby, such as those at Alcalalí, Murla and Tarbena. Choice enough.
Peña Roja is visible from our house. Some thirty walls and more than 35 routes of increasing difficulty, a ten-minute drive away. Ideal for a morning of climbing and an afternoon back at the pool. Please help protect the endangered Antirrhinum valentinum, a small plant whose flower resembles a snapdragon.
A little further, three quarters of an hour to an hour away, lie the Vall de Guadar and the Puig Campana. Enough to keep you going for weeks. Bring your own equipment.
Close by you will also find Alcalalí and Font d'Axia with easier sport climbing. A quarter of an hour away are L'Ocaive, the Sierra de Toix and the Mascarat with multi-pitch routes, and the imposing Peñón de Ifach by the sea.
