The wine valley of Llíber, between Xaló and Benissa
Set among the mountains, 25 minutes from the sea, this place is humming with life. Fresh green orchards, bodegas, the Saturday street market, lively villages, Barbary sheep in the mountains, top restaurants and simple little bars.
Every valley has its own fruit
Behind every mountain a different fruit grows. The Jalón valley is the wine valley, and a little further on, near Alcalalí, you see almond trees. Around Pego lie the orange groves, and the Vall de Gallinera is full of cherry trees. Behind Oliva are the rice fields.
Many kilometres of walking paths and demanding cycling routes await the more active. The almond blossom lasts only two weeks, usually around the middle of February. All the vineyards lie side by side, with still more on the slopes. The grape harvest runs from August into September, and it starts earlier every year. The rice fields stretch as far as the eye can see, many football pitches wide, flooded with slightly salty water from the sea and harvested in September. The cherries ripen in May, and you can then buy them on every street corner. Oranges come in different varieties, so they are fresh from the tree from September to January. The longer they hang, the sweeter the fruit.
There is no need to sit still here
Every village has padel courts. Eight superb golf courses in the immediate area. Professional road cyclists train in these mountains for the Vuelta and the Tour de France. In the surrounding mountains there are 2,500 km of waymarked walks.
If you are sporty, our region (the Jalón valley) offers walking, hiking, golf, padel, mountain biking, road cycling, mountaineering, running, tennis, cycling, swimming and sailing. We also offer wine tasting, grape picking, horse riding, diving and helping to make olive oil, or a workation.
