Sea and beach
From the valley you can have your feet in the sea within half an hour. Hidden coves, or the broad family beaches of Dénia and Calpe with promenades full of pleasant terraces. The coastline of Benissa Costa, Calpe, Moraira, Jávea and Dénia alternates between rocky, idyllic coves (calas) and fine sandy beaches. One cove described in many guidebooks is Cala Granadella.
Benissa
Benissa Costa has small pebble beaches tucked against the cliffs, some with a chiringuito, a small beach restaurant. At other quiet coves you can simply lie in the sun, swim and snorkel.
La Fustera is a larger sandy beach with good parking and an excellent restaurant.

Moraira
Moraira has two faces: a modern part in French Riviera style and an older village heart, with a spacious beach and a large car park.
The picturesque El Portet lies further north and has a narrow beach against a large rock, perfect for snorkelling and paddleboarding. Along the beach there is a terrace where you can eat and drink. It has a wonderfully easy-going atmosphere.
Calpe
Calpe is a large, well-known seaside resort, very lively and popular with young and old alike. The broad sandy beaches (Playa de la Fossa, Playa Arenal-Bol) look out on the Peñón de Ifach, a rock that seems to be rising out of the sea. The generous beaches have plenty of restaurants and cafés along the promenade.
Partly because of the high-rise buildings, it is sometimes irreverently called 'little Benidorm'.

A little further north lie Jávea and Dénia, with still more beaches and harbours. Also reachable within about thirty minutes.
To the north are the long sandy beaches of Dénia (Les Marines) and to the south the rocky coves (Les Rotes). Bring your swimming shoes.
The lively sandy beach of Jávea, Playa del Arenal, is popular. There are also the rugged coves with crystal clear water that can sometimes only be reached on foot. Cala Granadella and Cala Ambolo are beauties, but plenty of people know that, so in summer they are very busy.
Cala Granadella
One of the most written-about coves is Granadella. This idyllic cove lies between Jávea and Benitachell, and is reached from Benitachell, Cumbre del Sol.
This pebble beach is not very large, but its setting makes it very popular. You can paddleboard, hire canoes and snorkel there.
In the summer months it is fairly busy and, mainly because of the parking, not easy to reach by car. You can leave the car along the road, but if you are not there by 8:00 you will still have quite a walk.
There is a bus service that takes you there and back for €6 and runs every hour. Or you go for the canoe tour, and then you can park down at the cove.
